In August 1998, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP
(SOM) began its search for a new headquarters location as its lease at
220 E 42nd Street came to expiration. After a review of a long list of over 70
sites, and tours of more than 24 properties, SOM leased space at 14 Wall Street.
